McKinney city services to begin reopening May 1

Starting May 1, McKinney’s retail, restaurants and movie theaters can open at 25% of an establishment's listed occupancy.

This comes after McKinney City Council voted to amend its emergency ordinance at an April 28 special meeting to align with Gov. Greg Abbott's revised plan to reopen Texas announced April 27.

Museums and libraries will be allowed to open at 25% capacity as well, according to Phase 1 of Abbott's plan. No hands-on or interactive components will be allowed.

McKinney government offices are reopening, such as the development services department, Senior Communications and Media Specialist Frances La Rue said. The Roy and Helen Hall Memorial Library is reopening book drop-off services May 1, and curbside pickup will begin May 4, she said. Public bathrooms at the McKinney Performing Arts Center for downtown visitors will reopen this weekend as well, La Rue said.

The fire marshal’s office walk-up window will reopen May 4, she added, but the office is continuing to encourage submittals and payments online.

The city’s play structures and facilities are remaining closed for the time being, La Rue said.
