A Collin County grand jury declined to indict a McKinney City Council member accused of family violence, according to the county's June 6 report. McKinney City Council member La'Shadion Shemwell was arrested Dec. 6 on suspicion of continuous violence against the family, according to McKinney police. The grand jury's decision not to indict means there was not sufficient evidence to prosecute. The charge was a third-degree felony. Shemwell could not immediately be reached for comment.
