Downtown McKinney reinstates parking enforcement after making signage, stall marking improvements

Historic Downtown McKinney will see increased parking restriction enforcement beginning Oct. 3.

The city of McKinney evaluated parking restrictions in the downtown area over the last two years and determined improvements to signage and stall markings were necessary, according to an email from Visit McKinney. During that two-year time period, parking enforcement restrictions were limited.

Now that all improvements have been added, enforcement will resume, the email stated.

Downtown McKinney has various options for free public parking within a five-minute walk from the square, including 13 uncovered parking lots, according to McKinney Main Street. There are also two covered parking garages at 202 S. Chestnut St. and 260 Davis St. There are a total of 2,190 parking spaces in downtown McKinney, according to the email announcement.

McKinney also offers the Downtown Area Shuttle, or DASH, which runs Wednesdays through Saturdays from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. The free, on-demand shuttle service can carry up to six passengers for pickup and drop-off anywhere within the Cultural District, according to McKinney Main Street. Visitors to the square can wave down the shuttle or call 469-733-DASH for service.

Changes to downtown parking enforcement also occurred in 2016, when two additional officers were added to patrol the area for parking violations.
