Wayback Barn offers outdoor ax throwing, event space in north McKinney

Wayback Barn opened in north McKinney in early December.

The venue, owned by Ryan and Laura O’Dowd, offers a space for hanging out, gatherings, events and more, according to the business’ website.

The hangout spot offers a number of outdoor yard games and activities including darts, ring toss, Connect 4, cornhole, horse shoes, Gaga ball, tetherball and more. Guests are also able borrow a number of available sports balls for use in the venue’s large field area, Laura said.

Wayback Barn offers outdoor ax throwing with a total of six lanes and targets are made of real tree stumps. The business also offers event space and can host a variety of events, such as birthday parties and corporate events.

The business is located on 4 acres of land and includes a 108-year-old horse barn that has been restored. Guests are able to pay an admission fee and stay as long as they’d like, Laura said.

“The idea is ... to encourage people to get outside and make memories,” Laura said of the business.

The venue will offer food trucks and live music on the weekends, and the owners plan to offer opportunities for local high school students to perform as well. Other planned additions include a mini golf course, a drive-in movie theater and a bar inside the horse barn, Laura said.
