Six Blades Jiu Jitsu to debut new location in south McKinney

Six Blades Jiu Jitsu will begin offering classes at its new location in south McKinney on June 12, according to co-owner Carmen Vega de Alencar.

The jiujitsu academy, located at 7951 Collin McKinney Parkway, Ste. 550, will offer classes and training for all skill levels, Vega de Alencar said. Classes are available for children beginning at 5 years old as well as adult classes, according to the business’s website.

“We compete, and we have that level of training, but we also have the students who say, ‘Hey, that's not for me, but I like to just train,’ and that's fine too,” Carmen said. “We all help each other, and we build each other up.”

The location is owned by Vega de Alencar and her husband, Jose Alencar, who previously owned a Six Blades Jiu Jitsu academy in San Diego. The couple along with their son Yan Alencar serve as instructors at the academy, according to its website.

“We're very family and community oriented,” Vega de Alencar said. “We're a family of black belts: I'm a black belt; my husband's a black belt; my son's a black belt. I have six kids, and they all train jiujitsu.”

The business is an affiliate of the Six Blades Jiu-Jitsu association. Six blades represents the six foundational values that the organization uses to train its students, including family, respect, loyalty, discipline, attitude and honor, Vega de Alencar said.

The academy has 1,100 square feet of mat space and plans to offer free training opportunities to military members, police and first responders, Carmen said.
