The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and The Texas Health and Human Services Commission hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for the UTHealth Continuum of Care Campus for Behavioral Health, a new state psychiatric hospital located at 2800 South MacGregor Way, Houston, on June 26.

“The state is making an unprecedented and life-saving investment in helping people with mental illness," Courtney Phillips, HHS executive commissioner, said in a press release. "This is a true partnership with a common mission of providing absolutely the best care possible."

The state approved $125 million for the construction of the new facility, which will include a 240-bed hospital for patients in need of acute psychiatric care. The hospital is scheduled to be complete in 2022 and will be the largest academic psychiatric hospital in the country. www.hhs.texas.gov
