Seton Healthcare Family—the hospital network that includes the Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas and Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas—will change its name to Ascension Seton on Oct 24., according to a news release sent Monday. Individual hospitals and clinics will operate under existing names until further notice, an official representative from Ascension said. In the coming months, names of individual facilities may change after representatives gather input from providers, patients and community members. The name change is part of a “national effort to make it clearer and easier for patients to access the care they need and to navigate their health,” according to the release. Seton Healthcare Family is part of Ascension, a nationwide non-profit, faith-based health system that has 2,500 sites of care in 22 states and Washington, D.C. The release stated that Seton and systems in six other states will adopt a unified name, joining Michigan and Wisconsin’s systems, which changed names in September 2016.
