Flower Mound Planning and Zoning Commission recommends approval of HTeaO site plan

Flower Mound’s Planning and Zoning Commission recommended approval of a site plan for HTeaO during its July 11 meeting. The proposed location would be south of Cross Timbers Road and west of Morriss Road, across from the town hall.

Franchise owners of the Texas-based restaurant chain said they hope to open a drive-thru-only restaurant, according to the agenda item.

The owners are also seeking an exception to the town’s architectural standards by requesting to build a flat roof. The town’s urban design plan requires any building 15,000 square feet or less to have pitch roof elements. Surrounding buildings around the proposed site have flat roofs that predate the adoption of the urban design plan.

The location’s owners plan to incorporate a brick color to match the town hall building and neighboring Chase Bank.

“There’s definitely a corporate look to having flat roofs. Pretty much all HTeaO stores do have flat roofs,” said Aaron Mattlage, owner and operator of the proposed franchise location. “We would have been a little bit more out of place with a pitched roof. We also went back on the franchise architecture. We know how important that is to Flower Mound, and we wanted to respect that.”

The item will next go before the Town Council for final approval.

“This matches the surrounding buildings, the feel of the area,” Commission Member James Naylor said. “The flat roof does not cause me any issue at all.”

HTeaO started in Amarillo and has several locations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Its menu items include more than two dozen flavors of iced tea as well as coffee and snacks.
