Denton County Commissioners Court voted April 7 to allocate $60,000 to United Way of Denton County’s COVID-19 Relief Fund, bringing that fund's total to more than $227,000.
The fund was established to help provide financial assistance to individuals and families in Denton County who have been negatively affected by the COVID-19 outbreak, said Courtney Cross, director of mental health and housing initiatives for United Way of Denton County.
“We know that when any kind of disaster or crisis hits, it unfortunately tends to impact those most vulnerable first, and sometimes in the largest ways,” Cross said. “This fund helps residents to be able to contribute to their neighbors who may be hurting right now. We'll get through this together.”
Through the fund, people who have experienced income or job loss can get financial help for rent, mortgage and utility expenses. Residents can find out more about eligibility rules and the documentation required to receive assistance at United Way’s website, along with a list of other resources available to those in need.
