Liberty Hill leaders are planning to have more discussion surrounding the potential installation of “no parking” signs on Main Street.
What happened
City staff recommended implementing a series of “no parking” signs from RM 1869 to Hickman Road for better visibility and safety on the roadway, according to city documents.
Further, the city has future plans to widen the sidewalks on this portion of Main Street, which will permanently remove these on-street parking spaces.
The action taken
Council was scheduled to vote on the proposed plan during its June 12 meeting; however, the Public Works department requested it be postponed.
Director of Public Works David Thomison said the department would like for the plan to be reviewed by a few more city committees before it’s considered by council. Additionally, he said some of the downtown business owners are concerned about the removal of the parking spaces in front of their establishments.
To remedy this, city staff will discuss the possibility of creating a parking lot near Main Street at a property recently acquired by the city’s economic development corporation, Thomison said.
Officials did not specify when the proposed plan will come back before City Council.
