Liberty Hill ISD is weeks away from adopting new attendance boundaries that will reassign some students this fall.
The district has released its recommended rezoning proposals as it prepares to open four new campuses in the 2026-27 and 2027-28 school years. The LHISD board of trustees is expected to vote on the new zones at its Feb. 16 board meeting, according to district information.
The district will open Saddleback Elementary, its ninth elementary school, in August 2027.
The rezoning process comes as LHISD works to reassign students to Lariat Trails Elementary, Legacy Ranch Middle School and Saddleback Elementary. The district is recommending using the same high school attendance boundaries in which students living west of US 183 attend Liberty Hill High School while students living east of US 183 are zoned to Legacy Ranch High School.

A closer look
In the recommended middle school zones, students living west of US 183 would continue to attend Liberty Hill Middle School.
The majority of students living west of Ronald Reagan Boulevard but east of US 183 would attend Legacy Ranch Middle School. Most students living east of Ronald Reagan Boulevard would attend Santa Rita Middle School.
The new zones would maximize campuses' capacity, not split neighborhoods, allow for more efficient transportation routes and would not require zoning changes for at least the next five years, interim Superintendent Travis Motal said in a video update shared with parents in early January. Motal has been named the lone finalist for the role and is expected to transition into the permanent superintendent role in February.

What else?
For the elementary school proposal, Lariat Trails Elementary would pull students from Sundance Estates, Northgate Ranch and Lariat neighborhoods off CR 214. Additionally, the school would pull students living near CR 200 from Clearwater Ranch to Sundance Ranch as well as CR 201, including Mesa Vista Ranch, Motal said.
Liberty Hill Elementary would receive students from Butler Farms, Rio Ancho, the city of Liberty Hill area and rural neighborhoods in the southwest portion of the district, Motal said. Stonewall Ranch, Liberty Parke and Saratoga Springs neighborhoods would attend Bill Burden Elementary as well as North Haven, Cascade and other future developments near CR 207, he said.
The district is not recommending any boundary changes for Bar W Elementary or Rancho Sienna Elementary, which includes Bluffview and Lively Ranch neighborhoods.
LHISD is aiming to relieve Tierra Rosa Elementary as it has been overcapacity since the start of the school year with all new students attending Santa Rita Elementary, Motal said. The district has proposed using a pipeline running through the Santa Rita Ranch neighborhood as a dividing line, with students south of the pipeline going to Tierra Rosa Elementary and north of the boundary attending Santa Rita Elementary.
Beginning in the 2027-28 school year, Saddleback Elementary would serve students from Santa Rita Ranch, Grand Oaks and Rancho Santa Fe neighborhoods along with communities off CR 258 and CR 3405.
Louine Noble Elementary would house Saddleback Elementary students next school year until the campus is complete in August 2027, Motal said. Louine Noble could then become a prekindergarten learning center serving only prekindergarten students in the district, he said.

How we got here
LHISD formed its first parent advisory committee in October to review data and priorities for the rezoning process.
The district shared its recommended rezoning proposals in early January and hosted town halls to receive community feedback Jan. 13 at Legacy Ranch Middle School and Jan. 15 at Legacy Ranch High School.
District officials will meet with the parent advisory committee Jan. 22 to review community feedback collected over the last few weeks and share any recommended changes, Motal said at a Jan. 20 board meeting.
