With a tally of six restaurants—five in Austin and one in Dallas—the original Tacodeli, 1500 Spyglass Drive, Austin, is receiving extra attention from co-owners Roberto Espinosa and Eric Wilkerson.
“It’s almost like a new store,” Espinosa said of the three-month project that forced the brick-and-mortar site to close and instead serve patrons from a food truck in its parking lot.
When it reopens in mid- to late-July, the restaurant will be 1,700 square feet, almost double the size of its current 950 square feet, he said. Indoor seating will accommodate 25-30 patrons, he said. The restaurant’s kitchen is being rebuilt as well as its food preparation areas, he said.
“This location is basically my little baby,” Espinosa said of the West Austin site. “It’s really the granddad, or patriarch, of all of the Tacodelis.”
