No right turns off Reveille Road permitted during Bee Caves Road project

A right-turn ban from Reveille Road onto Rocky River Road between the hours of 7-9 a.m. was approved by the West Lake Hills City Council on Nov. 9. The ban will be in place for the duration of the Bee Caves Road expansion project.

The right-turn ban is an attempt to deter cut-through traffic in the neighborhood during the morning commute, Mayor Linda Anthony said.

“We’ve been approached several times over the years about different turn prohibitions on a number of the streets in the neighborhood,” she said. “So far we haven’t had one resident or business owner voice anything but approval. I see no downside to trying it.”

At a council meeting Oct. 26, Mayor Pro Tem Stan Graham said on an average morning, about half of the traffic turning left onto Reveille Road from Bee Caves Road is cut-through traffic, and that number is expected to increase during the expansion project.

“I think this is a win because it’ll decrease the traffic on Reveille,” he said. “People want to use Reveille to cut through, and as soon as they learn they can’t turn right, they’re going to be forced to go back onto Westlake Drive, and wait at the stop sign with all that traffic. They’re not going to want to do that.”
