Subcommittee presents recommendations for calming measures on Redbud Trail

After an 11-day speed study revealed that 63 percent of vehicles traveled at speeds exceeding the 25 mph speed limit on Redbud Trail, West Lake Hills’ traffic-calming subcommittee sent follow-up surveys to 195 households in the area and received 70 responses.

On Sept. 14, the subcommittee shared its findings with West Lake Hills City Council as well as presented three recommendations for future action.

Based on the results of the speed study and resident survey, the subcommittee’s recommendations aim to “alleviate traffic and improve safety,” said Darin Walker, a member of both the subcommittee and West Lake Hills City Council. Walker presented the following recommendations:

place a stop sign at the Redbud and Live Oak Ridge Road intersection;

install three speed cushions along Redbud—one near the Yaupon Valley Road stop sign, one near the Circle Ridge Drive intersection, and one near Kennan Road; and

clean up vegetation near Yaupon Valley, Kennan and Cedar Road Drive to improve drivers’ vision around curves.

The recommendations will be taken to an engineer, who will create a project plan that will be presented to the council sometime in October, City Administrator Robert Wood said.
