Gary Miller assumed the duties of Bee Cave Police Chief Sept. 8 following the retirement of Rusty Pancoast.
Bee Cave City Council named Miller as the city's new chief of police Aug. 12.
He was selected from three finalists presented to city staff and residents at a reception June 30. Most recently he was the deputy chief in the Kendall County Sheriff's Office and served with the Boerne Police Department for 22 years.
Miller said his first order of business is to get to know the citizens of Bee Cave, become involved in the community and listen to what residents have to say about issues they are facing.
"A lot of the [issues] we saw in Boerne are in Bee Cave—traffic, growth, maintaining quality of life," he said. "[Residents] want to keep [their community's] small-town feel even though growth is going to happen. We are trying to manage [growth] in a way the majority of people who live here would approve of."
