Terms and compensation

Council members and the mayor serve two-year, staggered terms. Members receive $50 per meeting, although some elect not to take the funds.

Big decisions made in 2011

• Bee Cave Parkway — The City Council agreed to move forward with the completion of Bee Cave Parkway—the road's third phase—by issuing bonds, bidding and awarding a contract for construction. Homebuilder Taylor Morrison pledged $800,000 to pay for a portion of the roadway, which is expected to be complete late summer or early fall, since the roadway will have an entrance to Taylor Morrison's Ladera development. The total cost of the third phase is $2.9 million.
• Purchased wastewater system — The City of Bee Cave worked with other coalition members to assist the Utilities Development Corporation on the purchase of the West Travis County Water and Wastewater systems from the Lower Colorado River Authority.
• Street maintenance — The council approved the implementation of a street maintenance plan for all streets in Bee Cave, including funding of Phase I. The project is on hold due to colder temperatures. The City Council approved a change order to the current project as well as authorized LNV Engineering to develop construction plans for bidding out the overlaying of residential streets in late March/April.

Top issues for 2012

• Completion of Bee Cave Parkway — The city plans to complete the third phase of Bee Cave Parkway between RR 620 and Hwy. 71 at Hamilton Pool Road in late summer or early fall of 2012. The extension will provide additional access to the Backyard at Bee Cave, Ladera subdivision and a future CVS Pharmacy.
• LCRA rate case — The City of Bee Cave and LCRA have been in litigation over proposed water and wastewater increases since 2008.
• Repairs to city hall, water intrusion issues — Since the completion of Bee Cave City Hall in 2008, there have been issues with the building leaking during rain events. The City settled a lawsuit in 2011 which will allow the leaks to be fixed in 2012.
