La Cabaña’s owners find new location in Spicewood, plan to reopen in January

“We don’t have a date of opening at this point. It just depends on permitting,” Linda Holt said. “We’re so thankful for the community support through this transition time, and we look forward to serving them in the future.”

The backstory

The old La Cabaña building was once known as the Horseshoe Lounge and then Club 71. The Holt family acquired the property in 1982 and it sat vacant for a while. Though another couple started the restaurant, Linda and Chip Holt eventually bought the business in 2009 and have owned it ever since, dishing out enchiladas and margaritas for customers.

Faulty electrical wiring ignited an HVAC fire on Jan. 5, 2018, that nearly brought the building down.

“People we didn’t even know were showing up and carrying stuff that could have been salvaged out of the building,” Linda Holt said.

La Cabaña’s wait staff pitched in to help rebuild then, and the restaurant was back open the following April. The 17-person staff helped pack up the restaurant for its move west on Hwy. 71 this month, too.

La Cabaña will live on, just a little on down the road.

“The outpouring of this community has just been incredible,” Linda Holt said.
