Motorists should anticipate traffic delays near George Bush Intercontinental Airport as road work is underway through Oct. 16, Houston Airport System officials announced in an Oct. 12 traffic advisory.
What’s changed
The road work is occurring near Terminals A and B and will result in fewer open lanes on southbound JFK Boulevard near the airport's Marriott hotel, per the advisory. Officials noted drivers leaving Terminals A and B should allow extra time and follow detour signs toward Will Clayton Parkway.
Additionally, law enforcement will be onsite to help with traffic flow.
Some context
The road work is necessary as officials prepare to unveil IAH's newly expanded Terminal B on Oct. 22. As previously reported by Community Impact, crews broke ground on the project in November 2023 as part of a $2.55 billion partnership with United Airlines. Terminal B North will open this fall, while Terminal B South is expected to wrap up in early 2028.
