Updated March 7 at 8:30 a.m. With all precincts reporting, unofficial results show Todd Litton has won the Democratic primary for Texas' 2nd Congressional District with 52.85 percent of the vote, a total of 15,113 votes. Litton defeated four other Democrats to win the primary and will face off against the winner of the Republican primary in the November elections. Republican State Rep. Kevin Roberts and retired Navy SEAL Dan Crenshaw are headed to a runoff in that race, which turned out to be a nail biter between the second and third place finishers and may be subject to a recount. "This year we saw a record number of Democrats in Harris County and in [District] 2 head to the polls to vote to make their voices heard and to show Washington that our community wants to forge a positive way forward for America," Litton said in a statement released following the results. "We need to keep this energy and momentum alive as we look towards November." Retired military officer J. Darnell Jones and Houston ISD teacher Silky Malik followed Litton with 22.06 percent and 9.69 percent of the vote, respectively. Ali A. Khorasani and H.P. Parvizian rounded out the field with 7.51 percent and 7.9 percent of the vote, respectively. Retired military officer J. Darnell Jones and Houston ISD teacher Silky Malik are following Litton with 20.21 percent and 9.2 percent of the vote, respectively. Ali A. Khorasani and H.P. Parvizian round out the field with 7.14 percent and 6.7 percent of the vote, respectively. A total of 15,845 Democrats cast early and absentee ballots in the District 2 primary election compared to 3,670 in the 2014 primaries. If no candidate secures more than 50 percent of the vote, the two candidates with the most votes will move on to a runoff election that will take place May 22. The winner of the runoff election will face the winner of the Republican primary in the November general election.
