Kingwood Rep. Dan Huberty announces retirement after 10 years

Rep. Dan Huberty, R-Houston, announced his retirement Oct. 19 after 10 years in the state House of Representatives.

In a statement, Huberty said that it was an honor to represent the people of the 127th district, which includes Kingwood, Atascocita and part of Humble.

“No one legislator, political party or interest group holds all the answers,” Huberty said. “But working in good faith, collaboratively and constructively we can achieve mighty results for Texans.”

Huberty served five terms as the district’s representative after winning in 2011. He also served as a trustee for Humble ISD.

Huberty also referenced his work on House Bill 3, which legislators have described as one of the most expansive school reform bills in Texas history. He said that his “interest in and passion for public education remains at my core.”

In the 87th Texas Legislature, Huberty’s other bills include House Bill 1603, which lightens graduation requirements for students regarding end-of-year exams, and House Bill 1525, which allowed the state to maintain teacher salaries.
