Inspired by their eldest daughter’s love of cooking, Kwan and Kia Johnson opened Brunch & Bloom in December 2025 with hopes of bringing an upscale dining experience to the Atascocita community.
“We felt the need in this area for the product that we wanted to deliver,” Kwan Johnson said. “There was a gap so we just wanted to fill that void.”
The backstory
Before the couple became restaurateurs, Kwan Johnson was a regional operations manager after medically retiring from the U.S. Army, while Kia Johnson served as a nurse practitioner. The couple has been married for 25 years and has three children.
“We’ve been in the area for almost 20 years,” Kia Johnson said. “Our kids go to these schools … [and we’ve] always wanted to give back and I was just like ‘Well, what better way?’”

On the menu
Open for breakfast, brunch and lunch, Brunch & Bloom’s menu features items that put a spin on classic dishes, such as the deep-fried smoked gouda grits, breakfast fried rice and the BBLT, which uses beef bacon instead of pork bacon.
“We wanted to create an elevated brunch experience for Humble, so you didn’t have to go to Midtown, Downtown or The Woodlands,” Kwan Johnson said. “Along with our chef, we curated a menu that kind of infuses different pieces of where we’ve been and what we like.”
The menu also features an expanding section of vegan options, and Executive Chef James Watford is able to accommodate other dietary restrictions, such as gluten sensitivities.

What’s special about it?
In addition to a carefully crafted menu, the Johnsons said the restaurant itself was designed with inclusivity in mind. The blue used throughout the upscale eatery is the same shade associated with autism awareness. The owners also purposely have a section of the restaurant where the music is quieter.
“When families come in here with kids that require special attention and might be overstimulated, we try to sit them on that side of the restaurant … that way the whole family can get out and enjoy and not worry about any disruptions,” Kwan Johnson said. “So it’s a place where everybody can be welcome and [it's] inclusive to all.”
In the spirit of giving back, the Johnsons also partner with Humble ISD’s culinary program and have donated meals to various organizations and nonprofits. The restaurant can also be booked for private events and has a network of vendors for clients to work with.

Looking back on their first year in business, Kia Johnson said the support the restaurant has received from the community has been overwhelming.
“Since we’ve opened, the love and support that we have gotten has been out of this world,” Kia Johnson said. “My heart has been so full from the day we opened the doors until now, and it just seems like each month it gets bigger. I’m just very grateful … that we decided to do this journey together, and I couldn’t ask for a better business partner.”
Looking ahead, the couple said they hope to expand Brunch & Bloom by opening additional locations, including one in their hometown of Baltimore.
