Some Deerbrook Mall stores to reopen, offer retail to go amid coronavirus

Select stores in the Deerbrook Mall in Humble reopened April 24 to offer curbside pickup following Gov. Greg Abbott's April 17 orders to reopen the Texas economy in phases.

Gov. Abbott's orders allowed retailers to open April 24 with retail to go, similar to how restaurants have been offering curbside pickup, delivery and takeout during the outbreak. The orders also reopened state parks April 20 and lifted surgery restrictions April 22. Gov. Abbott is also set to announce further changes April 27.

The mall will begin by opening 14 shops and one eatery on April 24, according to the Deerbrook Mall website. Dillard's, Barnes & Noble, Dick's Sporting Goods, Gamestop and LensCrafters are among the stores reopening Friday.

Humble City Manager Jason Stuebe said the city is very excited to see the mall at least partially reopen.

"Very little will replace a fully functioning and fully open mall, but this will certainly help some," Stuebe said. "At the very least, I hope it serves as a catalyst and provides a road map for other area businesses for how to re open and be successful in this new normal."
