Lake Highlands Trail in Dallas gets $400K increase for renovation project

A multimillion dollar project to renovate Lake Highlands Trail and connect it with the White Rock Creek Trail received increased funding to address additional improvements.

The funding is allocated for updates to the trail’s intersection with the DART Walnut Hill Station, additional drainage structures to keep the trail from flooding, handrails for added safety, and fencing along Skillman Street for residential privacy and safety.

The cost

During its Oct. 11 meeting, Dallas City Council increased the project’s construction contract from about $4.4 million to $4.8 million, adding nearly $400,000 to the project. The contract is with RoeschCo Construction, a Frisco-based general contracting firm.

About $300,000 of the allocation was disbursed from the city’s street and transportation improvement fund, and the rest was disbursed from the park and recreation facilities fund, according to City Council documents.

The details

The renovation project is meant to extend the Lake Highlands Trail from White Rock Trail to the White Rock Creek Trail at Walnut Hill Lane. The extension is being completed in two phases, but a projected completion date was not provided.
