TxDOT moving forward with Hwy. 114 project near Roanoke

The Texas Department of Transportation released details April 21 of a proposed project that will overhaul Hwy. 114 from Roanoke to I-35W.

The purpose of the project is to “improve and widen” the highway from west of Hwy. 377 to I-35W near the Texas Motor Speedway in Denton County, according to TxDOT officials. Proposed improvements to the roadway include the construction of a new six-lane rural freeway with two- or three-lane frontage roads in either direction.

The project will include cross streets at Dale Earnhardt Way and Litsey Road, officials said.

Per TxDOT specifications, the newly constructed highway will include an overpass at Dale Earnhardt Way and an underpass at the Litsey Road-Briarwick Parkway intersection.

Once compete, the highway's six main lanes will each be 12 feet wide, and the highway will feature four to six 12-foot-wide frontage roads in either direction. Travel lanes will include 4-foot inside shoulders and 10-foot outside shoulders, and east and west main lanes will be divided along the center line by a concrete barrier.

TxDOT officials noted that the proposed project will involve construction in a wetlands environment and in a floodplain.

TxDOT documents indicate that preliminary design and environmental clearance may be obtained by the end of summer 2020. TxDOT’s current target date for bidding and construction of the project is the fourth quarter of 2022.
