For the first time in service history, Trinity Metro’s TEXRail reached 1 million annual customers, according to a news release.
Team members with the commuter rail line celebrated the record breaking ride earlier this week on the train with the millionth rider.
Marking a milestone
TexRail, which spans the 27 miles between downtown Fort Worth and Dallas Fort Worth International Airport’s Terminal B, welcomed its first riders in January 2019. Since then, 4.8 million travelers, tourists and employees have ridden the train, according to the news release.
“DFW Airport is our region’s gateway to the world, and TEXRail puts that gateway within easy reach of Fort Worth,” said Reed Lanham, chief operating officer of Trinity Metro.
The rail line also has stations in North Richland Hills and Grapevine with several other dining, entertainment, employment and housing stops along the way.
This year’s milestone comes after last year’s record-breaking ridership in December and as the TexRail prepares for expansion.
Looking ahead
On Oct. 29, Trinity Metro will break ground on its expanded route and new station in the Fort Worth Medical District, according to the news release.
As the TexRail has grown, the area near the Grapevine/Main Street Station has seen over $114 million in transit-oriented development, according to the news release. Sales tax revenue for businesses in that area has also increased.
“Public investment in transportation has been met with private investment, new development and increased economic activity,” said Rich Andreski, president and CEO of Trinity Metro. “That creates value that reaches well beyond the people who board the train.”
