The Keller Pointe reopens indoor pool after major overhaul

After months of delays due to necessary engineering tweaks, The Keller Pointe reopened its indoor pool on Nov. 28.

What began as a flooring adjustment to smooth out the indoor pool deck quickly turned into a major infrastructure issue when workers began pulling up old rubber flooring on the pool deck and they discovered extensive damage to the pool deck and the underlying infrastructure.

“After starting a minor construction project in the indoor facility, some complications arose with the original pool deck construction," said Marissa Williams, aquatics supervisor at The Keller Pointe. "Upon further inspection by professional engineers, we discovered that the materials used in the original construction had not held up as well as what was expected. The damage included heaving panels and rusted rebar that had broken through certain sections. As a result, we had to decide that it was in the best interest of the project and further satisfaction for future projects that it would be best to amend all problems with the deck and complete a total deck replacement. This replacement provides a higher quality and longer-lasting solution."

Work on the original project began in Nov. 2021. While the initial flooring adjustment project was expected to be completed within a few weeks, the project ended up taking a year to complete. Not only was the project more extensive than originally planned, but extra time was needed for the city council to approve budget increases and there were also last-minute revisions to engineering plans that meant further construction delays.

Final construction cost for the project was $832,391.58 and funding came from The Keller Pointe Fund’s fund balance. “The Keller Pointe operates on a cost-recovery model, which means it is funded through user fees and membership fees rather than tax dollars, which is unique to the City of Keller,” Williams said. “This model allows the facility to include many amenities and attractions while keeping costs reasonable for members and guests.”

While the community has been looking forward to the indoor pool’s reopening, The Keller Pointe staff is also excited about showing it off to the community.

The revamped look features brushed concrete pool deck for a non-slick surface and the pool will be able to better handle the elements of the chlorine, Williams said.

The Aquatics Center of The Keller Pointe features high-speed water slides, an interactive outdoor splash pad, and multiple pool areas, including water playgrounds for people of all ages and abilities. The indoor pool, which opened as part of the original facility in 2004, gives members access to water activities year round. A grand re-opening party will be open to members and non-members and is slated for Jan. 28 from 10:00 a.m. to noon.

Adult day passes for The Keller Pointe (the entire facility) are $10 for non-residents and $8 for Keller residents, while youth passes are $9 and $7, respectively. Current membership prices can be found at www.thekellerpointe.com/services/membership.
