Portion of Keller trail system will temporarily close

Keller city officials announced July 8 that a portion of the city’s trail system will close for a roughly two-month period.

The section of trail impacted stretches from Old Town Keller, west of Hwy. 377 and south of Pecan Street, to the Keller Sports Park at Sports Parkway. The closure is due to the replacement of Union Pacific Railroad tracks, and it will begin July 13, officials said.

“The section ... spans from the Old Town connection of the Big Bear Greenbelt just south of Pecan Street to the street crossing at Chisholm Trail,” the announcement said.

According to city officials, the closure is necessary to ensure “a safe construction zone for crews replacing ... tracks that stretch over the trail.”

Work crews will use the Keller Sports Park to access the construction area, and residents may see construction activity and staging on the park’s south end, officials said.

“We typically see lower trail activity this time of year because it is so hot outside,” city staff said. “Hopefully, [the] project will progress according to schedule so we can reopen the trail in time for cooler fall weather.”
