Keller officials voted to call a special election for the Place 4 council seat at a regular meeting Feb. 17.
In a nutshell
The city must have a special election for the seat after council member Tag Green resigned to run for the city's open mayoral spot, according to a city news release.
Keller's rules require that Green resign from his position due to the amount of time left on his term, which would have ended in 2028. He will be running for mayor in the May 2026 elections.
Candidates running for the Place 4 seat will appear on the May 2 ballot with the mayoral, Place 5 and Place 6 races, according to the release.
Candidates who want to to run for the Place 4 seat can file an application on the city's website from Feb. 18-Mar. 3. The elected official would finish Green’s term through 2028.
“I am passionate. I could never stand on the sidelines when leadership is needed or stay silent when someone needs to speak the truth. I promise to stand for truth and transparency,” Green said in a social media post announcing his mayoral candidacy.
Also of note
As of Feb. 10, current Mayor Pro-Tem Ross McMullin and Green are the two candidates for Keller’s mayoral race in the May elections. McMullin is not required to resign to run for mayor because his current term expires in May, according to the release.
The Place 5 and Place 6 races each have one candidate, including current Place 5 council member Chris Whatley and former Keller ISD Place 6 board trustee Charles Randklev for the Place 6 race. Candidate listings can be found on the city's website.
