Keller ISD Place 6 board position to open after Charles Randklev resigns

A Keller ISD board position will be vacant after Place 6 trustee Charles Randklev announced his resignation Dec. 10 on social media.

The gist

Randklev said he was resigning to pursue candidacy for a position on Keller City Council. That position will be on the ballot for the May 2, 2026, election.

While KISD board terms ordinarily last three years, the board recently approved new November election dates for board trustee positions at a meeting Nov. 20, which extends all current board terms by six months. The new ordinance places the next vote for the KISD seats during the Nov. 3, 2026, general election.

Texas law states a vacant board seat can be filled by appointment until the next regular trustee election or order a special election. A board vacancy must be filled no later than the 180th day after it occurred if more than one year remains for the vacated position.

The district did not provide a statement to Community Impact on whether there would be a special election for the Place 6 position.

Randklev's resignation also must be approved by the KISD board.

The background

Randklev was first elected as the Place 6 Trustee in 2021 and was re-elected during the May 2024 election.

He was board president for the 2024-25 school year when KISD was considering a district split. The board later called off the district split, stating there was “no viable path forward” to do so in an email to district families.

Randklev's announcement to pursue a seat with Keller City Council comes after Keller Mayor Armin Mizani announced he was running for Texas House District 98.
