Keller ISD to pay for school supplies for district families for 2020-21 school year

Keller ISD officials are hoping to mitigate the financial and health effects of COVID-19 for families across the district.

Officials announced in June that the district will provide supplies from annual classroom school supply lists for the 2020-21 school year. The supplies will be purchased using campus and department funds that were not used during facility closures due to COVID-19, the announcement said.

“We recognize that many members of our community are struggling financially as a result of this pandemic,” KISD Superintendent Rick Westfall said. “As the needs were presented, we saw it as an opportunity to help take care of families.”

After the idea was presented to district officials, KISD administrators began developing solutions to help families with annual school supply expenses, the announcement said.

The school supplies initiative will also help protect the health of at-risk families by allowing them to stay home, it said.

“As our families prepare for the reopening of schools this fall, we wanted to take the burden of back-to-school crowds and the expense of students’ school supplies off their plates,” KISD Chief of Schools Cecil McDaniel said. “It is great to be able to give the resources given to us back to the community. I am so proud to be part of the Keller ISD community.”
