9 Ounce and Somm opened in north Fort Worth at the end of September.
Owner Ana Stull first envisioned the wine bar concept during the COVID-19 pandemic to honor her mother, who was raised in the Basque Country in northern Spain, according to previous reporting.
Stull announced plans for the wine bar and cigar lounge in February.
A closer look
Stull hired Majid Shavandy as the general manager and head chef of the location after decades of running restaurants in Fort Worth.
Shavandy helped craft the menu with odes to dishes from the Mediterranean region and Africa and his daughter helped craft the cocktail menu. Shavandy said the food menu and drink list complement each other.
“We have great food and great cocktails,” he said.
He said he started The Crazy Horse Cafe, The Pegasus and Spice. The chefs he hired, along with Shavandy himself, have more than 100 years of experience.

On the menu
The menu features appetizers, skewers, desserts, fried foods and hot food.
Dishes include calamari with salsa brava and garlic aioli; duck wings with a sweet apricot chilli glaze; sumac-crusted lamb chops; pan-seared chicken with cannellini beans and Spanish olives; and gambas al ajillo, Spanish-marinated shrimp cooked in olive oil, arbol chili, garlic and fresh herbs.
An olive oil cake, chocolate mousse cake and crema catalana, a traditional Spanish dessert of milk custard with a burnt-sugar crust, are on the dessert menu.
The drink menu
There are a variety of drink options at 9 Ounce and Somm.
Eight beers are on tap and three others are available in bottles. There is an extensive menu of whiskey, gin, bourbon, scotch, vodka and tequila, along with white, rosé and red wines.
Shavandy said he focuses on wines that are from smaller vineyards that could be harder for a normal shopper to find in the retail world. He said there are also dessert-like cocktails such as an espresso martini.

What else?
A cigar lounge is on the patio and the humidor for the cigars arrived the last week of September.
The seating inside features a mix of bar seating, high-top tables, smaller tables and chairs. Shavandy said one of the things he envisions for the restaurant is creating a social gathering spot where people enjoy tapas, drinks and interact with other customers.
