June 17 data: COVID-19 recoveries in Katy-area Harris County ZIP codes stand at 783

Only Harris County is providing full data on recoveries, deaths and active cases at the ZIP code level. Waller County is providing partial data, and Fort Bend County is only providing confirmed COVID-19 cases at the ZIP code level.

Data from the Southeast Texas Regional Advisory Council shows that as of June 16, there was a total of 12,592 patients in Greater Houston area hospitals, 1,431 of which were confirmed or suspected COVID-19 patients in general or intensive care unit beds.

SETRAC estimates Greater Houston area hospitals have a general and ICU bed operational capacity total of 22,102 beds. If surge capacity is needed, the total number of general and ICU beds can grow to an estimated 26,530 beds.

This data shows that out of 22,102 beds, about 57% were in use by all patients, and 6.5% were in use by confirmed or suspected COVID-19 patients.

Below is a breakdown of the coronavirus case data for Katy’s three counties. Note that of the seven ZIP codes, 77449, 77084 and 77094 fall fully in Harris County. ZIP code 77441 falls fully in Fort Bend County. However, ZIP code 77493 falls within Harris and Waller counties; ZIP code 77450 falls within Harris and Fort Bend counties; and ZIP code 77494 falls within Harris, Fort Bend and Waller counties.

Harris County

Active cases stand at 561, per June 15 data. This is an increase of 35 from data reported June 16. Recovered cases, meanwhile, grew day over day by 11 to 783, per June 16 and 17 data.

Total deaths remained unchanged at 11.

Data from the SETRAC shows that as of June 16, there was a total of 8,444 patients in Harris County hospitals, 1,079 of which were confirmed or suspected COVID-19 patients in general or intensive care unit beds.

SETRAC estimates Harris County hospitals have a general and ICU bed operational capacity total of 16,499 beds. If surge capacity is needed, the total number of general and ICU beds can grow to an estimated 19,805 beds.

This data shows that out of 16,499 beds, about 51.2% were in use by all patients, and 6.5% were in use by confirmed or suspected COVID-19 patients.

The Texas Department of State Health Services reported a total of 224,671 tests were administered in Harris County through June 16, an increase of 9,114 from tests administered through June 15. The DSHS did not indicate whether these totals include diagnostic tests, antibody tests or both.

Fort Bend County

According to data available at 5:30 p.m. June 17, the county reported no case count changes in the three Katy-area ZIP codes within Fort Bend County.

Data from the SETRAC shows that as of June 16, there was a total of 684 patients in Fort Bend County hospitals, 83 of which were confirmed or suspected COVID-19 patients in general or intensive care unit beds.

SETRAC estimates Fort Bend County hospitals have a general and ICU bed operational capacity total of 1,045 beds. If surge capacity is needed, the total number of general and ICU beds can grow to an estimated 1,255 beds.

This data shows that out of 1,045 beds, about 65.5% were in use by all patients, and 7.9% were in use by confirmed or suspected COVID-19 patients.

The DSHS reported a total of 79,309 tests were administered in Fort Bend County through June 16, an increase of 2,586 from tests administered through June 15. The DSHS did not indicate whether these totals include diagnostic tests, antibody tests or both.

Waller County

This data update shows that there are a total of seven confirmed positive cases in the Katy area of which four have recovered and three are at home to recover.

One recovery is in ZIP code 77494, and two are in ZIP code 77493. The remaining case data data only indicates the cases are in Katy, but no ZIP codes are provided.

Out of the 99 total countywide confirmed cases in the June 16 update, 43 have recovered, and there have been no deaths. Based on this data, Waller County’s active cases total 56.

SETRAC is not reporting any hospitalization data for Waller County.
