School board swears in new members, elects Michalsky president

The new president, Michalsky is an accountant by trade and serves as the chief financial officer for Cotton Holdings, Inc. He was elected to position 6 of the board in May 2012.

"While I humbly appreciate that this board now has the confidence in me to serve as board president for the next year, truthfully I'm not sure I'm ready for that role," Michalsky said. "But knowing that [former president Fox] and others will be here mentoring me provides me the confidence that we—collectively as a team—will continue to move forward and be the absolute best we can be."

The board also allowed outgoing board members Bill Proctor and Terry Huckaby a few parting words.

"I'd just like to thank the Katy community, the taxpayers, parents, students and all involved for being able to represent them on the Katy ISD school board; thank you," said Proctor, outgoing position 3 board member.

"I want to thank the community and the administration as well," position 4 board member Huckaby said.

Dibrell also said a few words of recognition to the incoming and outgoing presidents. He compared Fox to former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, who saw her people through a time of turmoil.

"Mr. Michalsky, I don't envy you in having to follow in her footsteps," Dibrell said of Fox to the incoming president. "The past two years, the leadership, the dedication, the passion for the young people of this community, the passion for Katy as a whole, has come through."

The next Katy ISD Board of Trustees regular meeting is scheduled for May 27.
