City Council approved a measure to hire Slattery Tackett Architects to design the city's second fire station at its regular meeting Dec. 8.
The future fire station on Kingsland Boulevard will feature a three-bay pull-through facility with living quarters, sleep rooms and related support spaces. Additional facilities will include a training tower and other training facilities, officials said.
Voters overwhelmingly approved a $5 million bond for the city of Katy to expand its fire services in November. A total of $3.4 million of the bond will go toward the construction of the new fire station, with $1 million being spent on a new fire truck and the remaining $600,000 allocated to a new training tower and additional equipment.
Katy Mayor Fabol Hughes said he was eager to see the project get off the ground.
