The city of Fulshear has chosen David Gott as its interim chief of police.
What you need to know
At an Oct. 13 meeting, Fulshear City Council approved the appointment of David Gott as its interim chief of police as the city embarks on the search for a new chief.
The appointment comes after former Police Chief Kenny Seymour was relieved from his duties Sept. 15 following an investigation stemming from an alleged affair Seymour had with a subordinate, Community Impact previously reported.
How it happened
Following interviews with several candidates recommended by placement companies and headhunters, City Manager Zach Goodlander, human resources representatives and members of the police department chose Gott as interim chief.
Gott has over 40 years of law enforcement experience in a variety of roles with 30 of those in the Houston Police Department, Goodlander said. He has also worked in homicide, internal affairs and tactical operations during his career, in addition to having a background as both a chief of police and interim chief of police.
What they’re saying
As interim chief, Gott said his main goal is to keep the police department stable as it chooses its permanent chief. Given the familiarity of his new position, Gott wants to bring what he’s learned and impart that to Fulshear.
“Make sure your policies align with your values, make sure your policies align with state law, obviously, and make sure that we’re performing as best as we possibly can,” Gott said.
Looking ahead
Gott began his new role Oct. 14 with the process of choosing a permanent chief taking three to six months, Goodlander said.
