Q&A: Meet the 2 candidates running for Fulshear City Council District 2

Why did you choose to run for Fulshear City Council?

I have been in Fulshear for 15 years, and I have seen the growth and the impact City Council decisions have on the community and the trajectory of our city. Since I don't believe in complaining without taking action, it was time to bring my input and leadership to council.

What is your top priority if elected to represent the citizens of Fulshear?

Safety is always first in my opinion, and I will work to ensure our police department is well supported. As a secondary priority, I will commit to asking, "How does this plan make the lives of residents better?"

What do you think is the most pressing issue for local residents, and what will you do to address it?

Our current way of doing business has to change. Fulshear was a small town, and while we love that aspect, the secret that is Fulshear is out. We need to adapt our ways to make it easier to do business in and with Fulshear.

How should the city prepare for and manage its growing population?

The city needs to review growth projections and ensure that the infrastructure is either aligned or ahead of the projected growth to minimize impact on our residents.

What would you do to prioritize economic development in the city?

As mentioned before, we need to be business-friendly and make it easier to do business in Fulshear, allowing for the development of common areas such as restaurants and shops.

Why did you choose to run for Fulshear City Council?

I bring 12+ years of local government experience, including nine years of volunteering on various boards and committees and three years on city council. I intend to continue projects undertaken that will bring economic development for the city, keep property taxes low and upgrade infrastructure and public safety.

What is your top priority if elected to represent the citizens of Fulshear?

Diversifying tax base is my top priority. It will allow funding to maintain levels of public safety even with population growth, improve water, wastewater, and street infrastructure. It will help reduce property tax burden on residents and keep utility fees low. It’s the golden bullet for most of Fulshear’s problems.

What do you think is the most pressing issue for local residents, and what will you do to address it?

Most pressing issue is lack of sufficient economic development and nearly 85% of the tax revenue is from residential property taxes. My plan is already in motion to bring in additional commercial sales tax revenue while preserving the character of Fulshear as a small family friendly town.
