Lamar CISD is seeking zoning input ahead of opening three new Fulshear secondary schools.
The context
At a Feb. 17 meeting, Lamar CISD board of trustees voted to approve three rezoning options as the district prepares to open Dresner Middle School, Urbanski Junior High School and Williams High School in Fulshear ahead of the 2027-28 school year.
“These new schools are part of our continued effort to stay ahead of the growth and ensure we maintain manageable class sizes and equitable access to resources,” said Jonathan Maxwell, executive director of enrollment management for LCISD.
Additionally, the board also authorized who will be a part of the rezoning’s attendance boundary committee.

The opening of the new schools will help to reduce the populations of Roberts Middle School, Leaman Junior High School and Fulshear High School to prevent overpopulation as the area continues to grow, officials said.
What they're sayingAs more facilities join the district, it becomes necessary to rezone certain communities in order to keep enrollment balanced, Maxwell said.
"Above all we aim to do what is best for our students that means keeping neighborhoods and feeder patterns whenever that is possible, aligning enrollment with campus capacity and reducing overcrowding," he said. "We also consider student proximity to campus, safe travel routes and effective communication with impacted families."

Lamar CISD announced a rezoning interactive map tool available online where users can enter their address to see which campus their child would attend for every option.
The district also released a survey—accessible from Feb. 18 through March 4—intended for parents whose children are impacted by the rezoning to share their option preferences.
What happens next?
The attendance boundary committee will meet in March to share opinions on the zoning options and rank the options before sending their findings back to the board, Maxwell said.
Final board recommendations are scheduled for May.
