Katy ISD hosts State of the District meeting

The district is projected to reach 100,000 students within the next 10 years, said Katy ISD Superintendent Lance Hindt at a State of the District meeting held Nov. 3.

“When I interviewed with the board [of trustees], I said ‘I promise to see that 100,000th student walk through that door,’” he said.

In 2015-16, the district had 73,000 students and ranked as the 52nd largest district in the nation, 248 rankings higher than 25 years ago.

Hindt said to accommodate the KISD’s growth, the district opened three new schools this year and will open another three new campuses next year.

Hindt also said the district’s second football stadium will open next year.

“Let’s just get the elephant out of the room,” he said. “It’s going to top $70 million.”

The stadium was a $58 million line item of the district’s 2014 bond. Hindt said additional funding for the stadium was paid for out of residual 2010 bond funds and from the general operating fund.

“It is wise stewardship,” he said. “It will be a beacon for this community. It will encourage economic growth in that area.”
