Here are the latest updates on three transportation projects happening around the Tomball and Magnolia area. This list is not comprehensive.

FM 1488 widening west of Magnolia

Project: The Texas Department of Transportation is widening FM 1488 from two to four lanes with a continuous left turn lane between the Waller County line and FM 1774.

Update: This project is 98% completed, according to a June 3 media update from TxDOT.
  • Timeline: November 2020-third quarter of 2025
  • Cost: $35.35 million
  • Funding source: state funds
FM 1488 widening through Magnolia

Project: Between FM 1774 and west of FM 149, TxDOT is widening FM 1488 from two to four lanes with a continuous left turn lane.


Update: According to a June 3 media update from TxDOT, this project is 58% completed.

  • Cost: $48.3 million

Dowdell Road asphalt project

Project: Harris County Precinct 3 is planning to reconstruct the asphalt of Dowdell Road from Kuykendahl Road to FM 2920.

Update: This project is in the design phase, as of a July 8 update from officials. Construction timelines and costs have not yet been set.
