In an update to the Magnolia Economic Development 4A Corp. at its Oct. 12 meeting, Montgomery County Precinct 2 Commissioner Charlie Riley said he anticipates construction on the Magnolia Relief Route to begin in March 2024.

In a nutshell

The Magnolia Relief Route is a proposed four-lane road that will span around the city of Magnolia from Hwy. 249 to FM 1488, Community Impact previously reported.

In his update, Riley said the design and engineering work for the project is done, and the Texas Department of Transportation is in the process of purchasing right of way.

Riley did not provide a project cost estimate during his update, but according to the city of Magnolia’s draft mobility plan, the project is estimated to cost $41.22 million and be funded by TxDOT.

  • From FM 1488 west of Magnolia to FM 1774: $19.1 million
  • From FM 1774 to Hwy. 249: $22.12 million

“So that project will get kicked off about March of next year,” Riley said. “You’ll see actual construction.”
