In and around the Tomball and Magnolia area, there are several options for where residents can volunteer at to help with the community, children, animals, food insecurity programs and other nonprofit groups. Friends of Texas Wildlife


The organization rescues, rehabilitates and releases injured, orphaned or abandoned wildlife alongside hosting many educational presentations. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old, and anyone under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

The Montgomery County Animal Shelter helps with animal care and placement in Montgomery County. The shelter cares for hundreds of dogs and cats by providing services such as neutering and microchipping while holding animals until they can be placed in a new home.

Assistance League of Montgomery County

Assistance League’s all-volunteer nonprofit organization has been transforming the lives of children and adults in Montgomery County since 1985 through its seven community programs.

Sample activities: work in the thrift shop, assist with various community programs, serve as team leaders, administrative work, information technology, accounting/bookkeeping, marketing and social media

The volunteer-driven organization provides and promotes affordable, high-quality mediation services and training to the Montgomery County area. They have been helping people with difficult conversations since 1988 so that they can resolve disputes quickly, confidentially, affordably and in a manner that supports the best interests of Montgomery County residents, especially children.

Eight community centers in Harris County are operated by Precinct 3, with an additional center opening in 2026. These centers offer residents group activities, fitness classes, educational seminars and social support. Volunteer opportunities are available at some locations. Note that volunteers are vetted and trained to assist with center events. Volunteer opportunities are not available for probation hours or any legal recorded time.

The Beacon Access Center, located in Oak Ridge North, serves individuals across Montgomery and north Harris counties—offering a supportive environment where neurodiverse adults can grow, connect and thrive as vital members of the broader community.

Bayou Land Conservancy

Bayou Land Conservancy conserves over 15,000 acres from Bryan to Beaumont, focusing on key areas that impact the water supply, wildlife and flood control. Volunteers can work on trail maintenance, special events, join a committee or lead guided hikes for the community.

Tidy Up Tomball, a nonprofit founded in 2023, is a community-driven initiative addressing the waste issue in Tomball.

Helping Hands Community Garden

The year-round teaching garden offers free organic garden beds for individuals, families, scout groups, senior citizens and those with physical limitations. Volunteers can learn to garden organically while using organic pest control.

The nonprofit has rescued and redistributed over 9 million pounds of surplus food at no cost to food-insecure neighbors since 2015, alleviating hunger and reducing food waste in the community. Over 4,500 tons of food have filled stomachs instead of landfills thanks to volunteer efforts, nonprofit officials said. The typical food recovery run is 60-90 minutes.

Kids’ Meals is ending childhood hunger by delivering free, healthy meals to the doorsteps of hungry preschool-aged children and, through collaboration providing their families with resources to help end the cycle of poverty. Volunteers age 8 and older are needed for shifts Monday-Friday 9-11:30 a.m., and all children under 18 must be supervised by an adult at all times.

The food bank receives, packages, and purposefully distributes nutritious food to hungry children, seniors, and families through a network of 90-plus partner agencies.

Sample activities: sort and package donated food, inspect and assemble rescued produce boxes, prepare weekend backpack meals for schoolchildren, assist with drive-thru and mobile food distributions, delivery groceries to low-income seniors, and support special events or community outreach initiatives

Tomball Community Garden grows fresh produce to donate to Tomball Emergency Assistance Ministries. Located at Tomball Methodist Church, volunteers work in the garden every Tuesday and Thursday for one hour, and children must be supervised by an adult.

The hospitals welcome year-round volunteers Monday through Friday. Opportunities are available for those 18 and over, with junior volunteer opportunities during the summer for high school students.

TOMAGWA provides compassionate Christian health care to community members with limited resources by offering medical, OBGYN, dental, vision, lab, pharmacy, and case management services. Along with its community partnerships, this nonprofit health center offers many levels of patient care from preventive to chronic care to complex medical needs for patients with or without insurance.

Family Promise of Montgomery County helps families experiencing homelessness and housing instability to achieve lasting independence through shelter, education, case management and community support. The mission is to help families build a path toward stability while treating every guest with dignity and compassion.

Meals on Wheels Montgomery County provides homebound seniors across the county with hot, nutritious meals, friendly volunteer visits that double as safety checks, and dependable curb-to-curb transportation to essential appointments.

The Montgomery County Women’s Center

The Montgomery County Women’s Center helps survivors of domestic abuse and sexual assault by providing an emergency shelter, legal services, crisis intervention programs, a 24-hour hotline, case management and transitional housing.

Angel Reach

The nonprofit serves kinship families and youth aging out of the foster care system as well as young people ages 16-24 at risk for homelessness. The organization provides housing, counseling, transportation, employment coaching and educational advising.

Boys & Girls Country

The licensed residential home for children ages 5-18 and young adults ages 18-25 serves children from families in crisis and provides a secure, stable, Christian home environment with an emphasis on education, building healthy relationships and setting goals for the future.

Sample activities: cleaning; gardening; organizing; professional services, such as haircuts and music lessons; hosting donation drives; tutoring; mentoring

The nonprofit accepts volunteers for its program working with children and teens living in residential treatment centers and foster care group homes in Harris and Montgomery counties. Volunteer roles include group mentoring, tutoring or serving with the Book Bus, a mobile literacy program. Requirements to volunteer include an online application, training and an annual background check.

Sample activities: mentor a child or help establish a program in a new partner church; tutoring a child once per week, or spend a couple of hours on a Book Bus outing
