The nonprofit Texans United For Freedom celebrated its 10th anniversary in April, treasurer Teresa Buckley confirmed.

The nonprofit, which was started by volunteers and community supporters, is focused on honoring and supporting veterans, first responders and their families, according to a July 1 news release. To date, the organization has contributed over $350,000 to organizations such as local VFW groups and Montgomery County constables.

TUFF’s programs include Boots 2 Badges, which helps veterans transition to civilian life through financial assistance to train and certify as a first responder, and Cooking 4 Courage, an annual fundraising event to raise awareness and honor veterans, according to its website.

Quote of note

“From day one, everything we’ve done has been driven by people who give their time, energy and hearts,” Buckley said. “What’s been incredible to witness is how that circle of support has continued to grow. The community has truly stepped up, showing up to BBQ cook-offs, galas and other events to raise awareness and help meet critical needs.”

Before you go
