At an Oct. 21 workshop meeting, Tomball City Council discussed the potential to enter an interlocal agreement for fire apparatus maintenance services with Harris County Emergency Services District No. 16, which provides firefighting services through the Klein Fire Department.

The details

One of the largest expenses in the fire department is apparatus maintenance, Tomball Fire Chief Joe Sykora said during the meeting. The interlocal agreement is an effort to reduce the current cost.

By entering into an agreement with the Klein Fire Department, Tomball Fire would be cutting the cost anywhere from $250 to $150 an hour depending on the maintenance, Sykora said.

“We pay the same price they do versus going to a manufacturer, ... [the manufacturer is] going to add a markup,” Sykora said.

Also of note

The Klein Fire Department has a shop built into their facility, and Sykora said if Tomball enters into this one-year agreement, it would be one of the first interlocal agreements of its kind.

Council should consider entering the agreement at the Nov. 4 meeting.
