During its Feb. 5 meeting, Tomball City Council approved a resolution authorizing and approving the Tomball Economic Development Corp.’s project for an amenities package for the city’s alleyways.
What’s happening
The TEDC will spend $1.18 million to fund the amenities package for Phase 1 of the city’s alleyway project, which includes the 100 north and south blocks as well as the 200 north block of downtown Tomball, according to the Feb. 5 agenda packet. The amenities package includes:
- Entry arch gateways
- Decorative string lights
- Masonry seatwalls
- Lighted entry markers
- Planter pots, soil, flowers and drip irrigation
- Lighting and electrical
According to the agenda packet, the cost breakdown by alley is as follows:
- 100 south block alley: $395,963
- 100 north block alley: $429,540
- 200 north block alley: $363,331
“What this agreement lays out is that the EDC will fund this project, but the city will bid it, and own and maintain those improvements,” TEDC Executive Director Kelly Violette said.
How we got here
In the works since at least 2022, the city began construction on the alleys in October. The city’s portion of the project includes the paving, utility relocations, communication and electrical conduits, dumpster pads, and an additional public restroom.
The city’s portion of the project costs $1.88 million and is expected to be completed this spring, according to its website.
