The second phase for Magnolia’s Water Plant No. 3 will begin soon after Magnolia City Council awarded the construction contract at its June 13 meeting.

In a nutshell

R & B Group, Inc. was awarded the $4.3 million construction contract to build Phase 2 of Water Plant No. 3. Phase 2 consists of a 410,000-gallon ground storage tank, three 1,000-gallons-per-minute vertical turbine booster pumps, a control building, a generator, drainage and detention, according to the May 9 agenda packet.

Phase 1 of the project consists of Well No. 7, slated to be completed by the end of June, while Phase 3 includes an elevated storage tank and a second water well, according to the June 13 agenda packet.

Amid a temporary development moratorium that was extended in April, the city has been working on several water wells and water infrastructure to increase capacity.

According to the engineering report included in the June 13 agenda packet:

  • Well No. 7 is anticipated to be completed by the end of the month.
  • Well No. 8 is anticipated to be completed by the end of November.

Other council actions

  • City Council ratified the appointment of Tim Robertson as Magnolia’s city engineer.
  • The Magnolia Police Department will receive new body cameras, in-car cameras and tasers after council approved a master professional services contract with Axon to purchase the items for a five-year annual payment of $66,189.
  • The city will move forward with issuing a request for quote and planning study to update the Magnolia parks and recreation master plan.
