Tomball City Council Member Lori Klein Quinn announced Jan. 30 she will resign from her council position to run for mayor of the city. Klein Quinn is beginning her eighth year as a council member.

Tomball City Council unanimously approved Klein Quinn's resignation during its Feb. 7 meeting.

Incumbent Mayor Gretchen Fagan is serving her fifth term after being re-elected in May 2019. Fagan has refiled and will be running for the position again, according to city candidate filings.

The city will hold a special election May 7, the same day as the general election, to fill Klein Quinn’s council position she is vacating, City Secretary Doris Speer said at the council meeting. Klein Quinn will be able to serve in her current role until the election due to a provision in the Texas Constitution to meet quorum requirements, Speer said.

The filing period for candidates seeking Klein Quinn’s position on council will run from Feb. 8-28, Speer said. Early voting dates for the special election will be the same as for the general election, Speer said.

The council member elected will be in office for the remainder of Klein Quinn’s term, which expires in 2023.
