What residents need to know
As previously reported, at the Dec. 10 meeting, the board voted to approve the use of 2021 and 2025 bond funds for multiple infrastructure purchases, including:
- New security cameras, furniture and equipment for Tomball West High School
- Additional funds to complete the sidewalks at the Early Excellence Academy
- 30 standard and 10 special education buses
Boles, during the Dec. 8 workshop meeting, detailed that there are three phases for all the 2025 bond projects:
- Planning & design
- Permitting & bidding
- Construction
As previously reported, Tomball Intermediate is among the first of these projects, and Boles said construction is expected to begin in October 2026 and be completed in May 2028.
Construction on the new transportation center is estimated to begin in February 2027.
More details
Alongside the new Tomball Intermediate facility, new multiprogram activity centers are set to be built at each of TISD’s high schools. The activity centers will be indoor facilities with an 80-yard artificial turf field.
Boles said that Tomball High will have the first prototype of these new centers, with construction set for October to May 2028. Tomball Memorial and Tomball West High School are receiving new activity centers as well.
- Tomball Memorial High School: construction between June 2026 and August 2028
- Tomball West High School: construction between November 2026 and January 2029
TISD’s existing athletic facilities are also expected to receive upgrades, including:
- Artificial turf installation/replacement
- Track restriping/resurfacing
- LED lighting upgrades
- Press box additions
- Additional baseball and softball seating
- Gym bleacher replacement and athletic complex paving at THS
Boles also noted that TISD will be coordinating with athletic departments to minimize any interruptions to students and faculty.
“Because these are projects that are going to be occurring at existing facilities, we can't just start these projects whenever we want to,” Boles said. “We [have] got to take into consideration the impact it's going to have on the campus and athletic activities.”
Remember this?
The district’s $429.1 million bond package was passed by voters this past May. The money is set to be used on upgrading infrastructure across TISD, including the new activity centers, technology upgrades and campus renovations.
