New Tomball ISD high school attendance zones are set to be approved in December, TISD Chief Operating Officer Steven Gutierrez said during trustees’ Nov. 11 meeting. The district’s third high school, Tomball West, is set to open next August.

The proposed attendance zones were endorsed by the school board last November when new attendance zones were approved for intermediate and junior high schools, according to TISD’s page about the rezoning process.

Additionally, the fifth-grade addition to Creekside Park Junior High School that opens next fall will not affect the attendance zones for elementary schools in the Creekside area, including Creekside Forest, Creekview and Timber Creek. Gutierrez said the district is not adjusting those zones at this time.

In a nutshell

Gutierrez said the district is in the third and final phase of its district zone reset process, coinciding with the TWHS opening and the Creekside Park Junior High School addition.

Once approved, the new high school attendance zones will only affect students in ninth and 10th grades and not students in 11th or 12th grades.

When it comes to the pause on changing elementary attendance zones in response to the CPJH’s addition opening, Gutierrez said 97% of parents in the Creekside area who were surveyed said they preferred staying at their current elementary school.

More details

TISD officials project that TWHS enrollment will be 855 students when the campus first opens. Gutierrez said when Tomball Memorial High School first opened around 15 years ago, it did so with 843 students.

Superintendent Martha Salazar-Zamora also said the initial projected enrollment of 855 for TWHS is not inclusive of students who will be a part of the district’s Tomball Academy of Future Educators program or any transfer students, so that number will likely rise.
Looking back

The entire district zone reset process started in 2023, Gutierrez said. Phases 1 and 2 involved the elementary, intermediate and junior high attendance boundaries due to the openings of West Elementary and West Intermediate.
