What’s changing?
On the first day of school, Tomball ISD will practice “off and away for the day,” which will require students to store their devices in their backpacks or in a safe location from the first bell of the day to the last, according to a July 24 news release.
Exceptions will be given to students covered under a Section 504 plan or an Individualized Education Program that includes cellphone access as an accommodation, according to the release.
TISD’s policy changes follow the passing of House Bill 1481, which mandates that school districts adopt policies banning the use of personal communication devices during the school day.
First steps
Returning student registration for the 2025-26 school year opened July 7 for TISD, according to the district’s website. All current TISD students who will be returning to the district in the fall must complete annual enrollment.
Returning students can register online here. New students can register online here. According to TISD’s website, required documents for student registration include:
- Proof of residence
- Immunization records
- Social security card
- Birth certificate
- Parent/guardian picture ID
Staying prepared
TISD announced it would use Stopfinder ID on buses for the 2025-26 school year. According to its website, every student riding a TISD bus to or from school will be required to wear their Stopfinder ID on a lanyard around their neck. They will also be required to use their Stopfinder ID to scan on and off the bus.
