The Tomball Education Foundation awarded $125,430 in grants to Tomball ISD educators for campus learning improvements such as added classroom technology and equipment, according to a Feb. 1 district news release.

The big picture

Foundation members and TISD administrators visited 16 of 23 total district campuses and one central office department to award 35 Innovative Learning Grants, according to the news release. The individual grants—awarded for the 2023-24 school year—ranged from $507-$5,000.

“Funds are used to facilitate student achievement and skill development, recognize and encourage staff excellence, and expand community involvement from individuals, businesses and civic organizations,” reads the news release.

The impact

TISD staff applied for the grants in the fall, submitting requests for projects or equipment that “enhance student academic performance,” according to the foundation’s website.


The grants benefitted 84 staff members who submitted solo or group grant applications, according to the release. A total of $123,680 from the foundation will be dedicated to the selected projects while the remaining $1,750 covers the cost of shipping for items, according to a Feb. 6 email from a TISD spokesperson.

According to the release, the grants will be used for programs and supplies, including:
  • $5,000 to create a music resource library for preschool and elementary special education students
  • $5,000 for electric instruments for Willow Wood Junior High’s orchestra
  • $5,000 in digital technology for Tomball High School’s debate team
  • $3,948 for ukuleles for third graders at Willow Creek Elementary
  • $2,527 for a sensory lab for Grand Oaks Elementary students with "sensory differences to regulate their emotions in order to remain engaged and ready to learn”
  • $1,542 for technology for a virtual reading program where high school students at Tomball Star Academy read to kindergarteners at Tomball Elementary

Founded in 2017, the Tomball Education Foundation is a nonprofit that has awarded about $395,000 in grants to TISD employees, according to the release.
